The world music festival "Porta" will be held this year from 27-29 July in three different venues, and on the last day of the festival, at the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia, the Crimean Tatar singer from Ukraine - Jamala, who is united by musical friendship with the heralds of free Ukraine - the band "DakhaBrakha", who have performed several times at the "Porta" festival, will take the stage.
As always, the festival is faithful to the sounds of world music and continues to introduce the diversity of this genre to the audience. In addition to the variety of music, visitors of the festival will also have the opportunity to get to know and enjoy the traditional flavors of the national cuisines of the artists’ home countries. For the first time, the festival will visit Kuldīga city, where on the evening of July 27, in the Pils Park, an opening concert is expected, where group "Slatucada" from Morocco will start the evening with the rhythms of African drums, while the electro-folk group "Okra Playground" from Finland will share the energy in the continuation of the concert.
On the second day of the festival, in the evening of July 28, in Fon Stricka villa, listeners will be able to enjoy the performances of Päivi Hirvonen from Finland, the owner of a powerful, deep voice and a magical bow lyre player, the “home-grown” singers of world music, including in their performances the most unimaginable musical instruments - "Rahu The Fool" and energetic multi-instrumentalists " Le Diable à Cinq” from Canada.
On July 29, in the new home of "Porta", the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia, concertgoers will experience a magnificent show on two stages. In the course of the evening, it’ll be possible to enjoy the creators of new sounds on one zither - "Duo Ruut" from Estonia and Daniel Herskedal from Norway - a musician who breaks the boundaries of the performing abilities of the instrument he plays - the tuba - on the Ambient stage.
On the second stage of the festival, alongside "Okra Playground" and "Slatucada", we will invite to our Porta family Ukrainian singer and songwriter Jamala to take the stage and allow everyone to witness her music, which combines soul, jazz, electronica and world music genres.
