The closing concert of the PORTA Festival’s 25th anniversary year will take place on November 1 at Daile Theatre, offering a special programme that brings together prominent representatives of Latvian world music and internationally acclaimed guest artists – the renowned Georgian musician Niaz Diasamidze with his band 33a, as well as the much-loved Georgian group The Shin, who are well known to Latvian audiences.
The first part of the concert will feature Latvian groups who have long contributed to traditional and world music, have been active participants in the PORTA Festival, and have collaborated with international artists – Iļģi, Auļi, Julgī Stalte with the programme “TKP”, Laima Jansone & DJ Monsta, Forshpil & Dzelzs Vilks, and Pūce’s Ethnographic Orchestra.
These ensembles have not only developed joint programmes with guest musicians but have also taken part in the festival’s educational broadcast Skaņusaite, thus becoming key contributors to the festival and influential voices in Latvian musical life. They are excellent examples of how world music can enrich Latvian folk traditions, creating new and exciting musical synergies.
